What is the Parkwood Springs Steering Group?
The Steering Group brings together local residents, Sheffield Wildlife Trust and Sheffield Group of the Ramblers. We work closely with Sheffield City Council and other relevant organisations.
Our objectives are:
- to help to conserve and improve the fantastic green space of Parkwood Springs
- to increase the use made of it by local residents, and by people from the rest of the city and beyond, while protecting wildlife and the natural environment
- to work towards it becoming a Country Park in the City.
At present Parkwood Springs is cut in half by a large landfill site, due to close by 2018. Even today, the countryside and views are spectacular. We want to see the area steadily improved and made more attractive and welcoming. In the long-run, when the landfill site is closed, there is the potential for a unique and world-class country park in the city. We want work to start on the planning now, so that the full potential of this magnificent location can be achieved.
We would welcome your involvement and support. A meeting was held recently to discuss forming a Friends of Parkwood Springs Group. There was wide support for this, so soon we will be starting to plan what a Friends Group should do, and how it will work, You would be very welcome to get involved.
