Volunteering: Forest Garden and wildflower sessions
Saturday 11th September 2021
10am - 12pm
We will have two volunteer sessions. The first will be our usual Forest Gardening session. In the other session we will be working on the wildflower area near the Beacons Viewpoint. At this time of year we have to rake off the hay and move it to where we want to seed for future years. It has been really nice to see how we have been able to establish wild flowers, and we hope to make the area of flowers a bit bigger there.
For both sessions, meet at the car park on Shirecliffe Road at 10am. Should you be late, come straight to the Forest Garden or the Viewpoint.
Volunteering: Conservation session
Saturday 18th September 2021
10am - 12pm
We will carry on removing the hay near the Beacons Viewpoints and spreading it where we want to seed. Again, meet at 10 am at the car park on Shirecliffe Road, or later at the Viewpoint (we won't have a litter-pick on this Saturday).
In all cases we will work through until about 12.30pm, with a break in the middle. Bring a drink or snack if you would like to.
Volunteering: litter-picking session
Saturday 25th September 2021
10am - 12pm
We will be joining our friends in the Upper Don Trail Trust, who are working hard to establish a trail for walkers and cyclists. We'll be helping to smarten up the entrance to Parkwood Springs on Herries Road just below the Five Arches Bridge, with the Friends of Wardsend Cemetery and the Sheffield Litter-Pickers. Gill Furness, our local MP, hopes to be there too. There will be a mixture of litter-picking and improving the paths.
If you would like to join us, meet at 1030am on Herries Road, a few hundred metres before it joins the A61 at the Sheffield Wednesday ground
Parkwood Springs also has two history walks this month, as part of the Sheffield Walking Festival and the Heritage Open Days. Both these walks are now fully booked, but the hope is to repeat them soon for Friends Groups members and supporters. However, there are places available on many other walks and activities. Beacons Lantern Procession
Saturday 16th October
4.30pm - 7pm
We are busy making plans for the 2021 Lantern Festival. To keep everyone safe this will be a little different (and smaller) than the Lantern Procession of recent years - but it will still be a great community event. It will take place on Saturday October 16th from 4.30pm near the car park on Shirecliffe Road.
